The following activities were conducted by Nepal Medical Students' Society (NMSS) to observe World AIDS Day 2006.

  1. Inter medical college essay competition.
  2. A seminar on "Stop AIDS: Keep the Promise".

Essay Competition

Date: 20 - 28 Nov. 2006

Objectives

  • To access the knowledge of medical and paramedical students about HIV/AIDS and their attitude towards the problem.
  • To motivate the students to learn more about HIV/AIDS and take part in the global battle against it.

Program Details

A notice was circulated to ten medical colleges and one nursing campus calling the students to participate in inter medical college essay competition on "Stop AIDS: Keep the Promise". The essays could be submitted via post or email or directly to the program coordinators. We received a total of thirty nine essays from seven colleges. These essays were evaluated our judges and top 3 essays were selected. Prize distribution was done on 30 Nov. during the seminar.

Conclusion

From the essays of the medical and paramedical students, it was clear that most of them had good knowledge about this disease and had innovative ideas about how to fight it.

Objectives

  • To provide a clear vision to the students about the current situation of HIV/AIDS pandemic in Nepal and in the world as a whole.
  • To impart the knowledge of Anti-Retroviral Therapy and recent advances in it to the students
  • To provide an opportunity for the students to interact with policy makers and experts in Anti-Retroviral Therapy
  • To motivate the students to play their part fight against HIV/AIDS
